Milwaukee Avenue Improvement Project To Get Underway

Gale Street to Montrose Avenue

Beginning the week of June 30th, work will get under way on a roadway reconstruction project on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale Street and Montrose Avenue. The $10.4 million dollar project is the first of ten planned along the Milwaukee Avenue corridor from Gale Street to Grand Avenue.

During construction, Milwaukee Avenue will remain open to traffic, however parking will not be allowed within the work zone and left turns will be prohibited at the Milwaukee/Montrose intersection.

The project involves rebuilding the roadway, installing new street lights, new sidewalk with ADA accessibility ramps, curb and gutter, sewers, stamped asphalt crosswalks, concrete bus stop pads and 120 new trees with tree grates. The Higgins Avenue triangle will also be improved with new granite pavers and lighting. Additionally, traffic signals will be modernized along Milwaukee Avenue at the intersections of Montrose Avenue, Sunnyside Avenue, Laramie Avenue, Lawrence Avenue, Ainsle Street, and Higgins Avenue.

The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2009.
